Atlas, Blue Carbon Intelligence

Terms of Use

Atlas Blue Carbon Intelligence · atlas.twende.green · Version 1.1 · Effective 13 October 2026
In short. Atlas gives you maps, data and analysis about Africa's ecosystems, carbon projects and the pressures and communities around them, starting with blue-carbon ecosystems such as mangroves. You may use it for research, planning, education, advocacy and project development. Please credit the original data sources, do not misuse the Platform, and remember that the information is a screening and decision-support tool: it supports, but does not replace, field verification and professional advice. The Platform is operated by Twende Green Planet and these terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.

1. Agreement and who we are

These Terms of Use ("Terms") form an agreement between you and Twende Green Planet ("we", "us", "our"), the operator of Atlas Blue Carbon Intelligence at https://atlas.twende.green (the "Platform"). The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit is a partner in the Platform. By creating an account, by clicking to accept these Terms, or by using the Platform after your guest preview, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data and forms part of these Terms.

If you use Atlas on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it, and "you" includes that organisation.

2. What Atlas provides

Atlas brings together maps, datasets, statistics, charts, reports, scenario tools and an AI analyst about Africa's ecosystems and the pressures and people around them. It starts with blue-carbon ecosystems such as mangroves and also carries themed layers (infrastructure, water, protected areas, people and settlements, wildlife, fire and climate, farming, mining licences, surveys, land use and boundaries), a register of carbon-credit projects with the organisations behind them and the community involvement they describe, knowledge articles, a partnership enquiry form, and tools for accounts, institutional access and profile pictures. Data comes from third-party publishers and from our own calculations. Each dataset page shows its source, version, licence status and archive details. Features may be added, changed or removed, and some, such as downloads, are limited to approved users.

3. Guest preview and accounts

4. Institutional access

Institutional access (dataset downloads, a higher AI-analyst allowance and priority marking of country requests) is granted after review by the Atlas team. We may approve, decline, ask for more information, or later withdraw access, for example if information given was inaccurate, or these Terms or the data licences are breached. Downloads are logged. Features marked as planned, such as API access and team seats, are not part of the service until announced. Institutional access does not transfer to another person or organisation.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Some browser features, such as right-click, view-source and developer-tool shortcuts, are disabled for non-administrators as a deterrent against casual copying. Disabling them does not limit the rights granted in these Terms.

Our content. The Platform's software, design, text, articles, logo and the analysis we add are owned by us or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Platform and to view its maps, data and reports on screen for your own and your organisation's lawful purposes. Exporting data (CSV, GeoJSON or any other format), viewing raw data files, and printing or saving reports as PDF are available only to institutional administrators. Atlas, Twende Green Planet and related names and logos are our marks; you may not use them in a way that suggests endorsement without written permission.

Content you submit. You keep ownership of what you send us (for example questions, request forms and notes). You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence, without royalties, to use it to operate, secure and improve the Platform and to keep records of use, and to publish aggregate, non-identifying insights.

8. Restricted and third-party personal data

Some archived third-party layers may contain personal or sensitive information. They are restricted to the super administrator and are not available to other users. You must not attempt to access them, and nothing in these Terms gives you a right to such data. Section 6 of the Privacy Policy explains how we handle it.

9. Availability and changes to the Platform

We aim to keep Atlas available, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. We may suspend, change or discontinue any part of the Platform for maintenance, security, legal or operational reasons, and data may be added, replaced, corrected or removed as sources are updated. We will try to give notice of significant changes.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account, or restrict access, immediately if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or the law, put the Platform or others at risk, or provided false information. You can stop using Atlas at any time and may ask us to delete your account (see the Privacy Policy). Sections that by their nature should continue to apply after termination, including sections 7, 11, 12 and 14, continue to apply.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Platform and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the data is without error, that scenario results will occur, or that the Platform will meet your requirements. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our partners, directors, staff and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of profit, revenue, carbon credits, investment, opportunity, goodwill or data, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Platform or from reliance on its content, even if we were told such loss was possible. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Platform is limited to the amount you paid us to use it, which is nothing because the Platform currently charges no fee, or, where the law does not allow that limit, to the minimum extent the law allows. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or intentional wrongdoing.

13. Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for losses, claims and reasonable costs that result from your breach of these Terms, including misuse of data in breach of its licence, or from content you submit that is unlawful, to the extent permitted by law.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the Platform are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya. The courts of Kenya (sitting in Nairobi) have exclusive jurisdiction, except that we may seek urgent relief in any court that has jurisdiction. Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at info@twende.green so we can try to resolve the matter in good faith.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when the Platform or the law changes. The effective date at the top shows the current version. For material changes we will show a notice in the Platform before they take effect. If you continue to use the Platform after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, stop using it and ask us to close your account.
