About this project

The VPA aims to provide electricity to the low-income group or rural community those who do not have the financial ability to incur the high capital cost of the installation of “Solar PV rooftop”, renewable electricity generation systems which will displace either (i) fuel-based lighting systems where no electricity is available; and/or (ii) grid connected user(s) mainly residential households. The solar electricity output from the Solar PV installations will be used for self-use with excess electricity (if any) being given to the grid. The project coverage will be entire Benin covering across cities, towns, villages, and industrial areas. Total electricity access rate of Benin is 57% of population out of which electricity access rate of urban area is 71% of population and electricity access rate of rural area is 46 % of population. Our project mainly aims to target population without access to electricity in rural and urban area which is 5.8 million people. Other than the primary outcome of bringing about a reduction in GHG emissions, generation of solar energy has multiple other social and economic benefits. The project is a long-term project for 15 years. The process of generating power through solar energy is a sustainable and clean technology, as there is no fossil fuel used for power generation therefore, no greenhouse gases will be emitted during the process. Through this initiative, the project activity aims to enhance energy accessibility and promote green energy practices at the ground level.
