Using the Scenario Lab
Slide the distance and loss, set carbon values, and read a low / central / high result.
Loss scenario. Choose the distance from the development (2, 5, 10, 25 km or everywhere) and the percentage lost; the lab shows hectares in scope, hectares lost, and CO₂ released as a range.
Restoration scenario. Enter hectares restored, years, survival and capture rates; the lab shows CO₂ captured and compares it with the loss.
Carbon values. Defaults are 400/700/1,000 tC per hectare (stock) and 2/5/10 tCO₂e per hectare per year (capture). Overwrite them with measured values before using results.
Without the sliders. Ask the analyst: "What if 10% of mangroves in Nigeria were lost?", "What would restoring 500 ha over 20 years capture?" or "How much mangrove would we need to restore to offset 1 million tonnes of CO₂?".
Remember. Scenarios are not forecasts. They answer "if X happened, what would follow?" with transparent arithmetic.
