Renewable Power Generation on Mafia Island
Gold Standard · GS11252 · Tanzania
About this project
The mission of this project is to generate renewable power on Mafia Island, Tanzania, to displace diesel power generation in the local grid. The project will install and operate a biomass gasifier with associated combined heat and power (CHP) plant and a solar photovoltaic system with a combined capacity of up to 2.5MW. The biomass CHP plant will be powered primarily with residues from coconut wood plank production, complemented by sustainably grown coppice crops native to the island.
