About this project

The project provides ethanol stoves to poor households as a clean and efficient alternative to using wood and charcoal for cooking. The ethanol stove has a thermal efficiency of 65% and use only clean and renewable ethanol cooking fuel. The ethanol is denatured and colored in accordance with Kenyan law for ethanol cooking fuel The ethanol used is a by-product from sugar factories. Sugar factories ethanol from molasses, which is a by-product from sugar production. Part of the ethanol is of sub-standard quality and this ethanol is then used as cooking fuel. Approximately 10 % of the ethanol produced by the sugar factories is of sub-standard quality and not suitable for human consumption. These 10% of the ethanol produced in Kenya is sufficient for the ethanol cookstove projects as part of our PoA in Kenya. The project is fully funded by Samsung Electronics co., Ltd. Samsung also buy the carbon Credits. The project was registered as a CDM CPA as part of the CDM PoA. The project is transferred to Gold Standard as a VPA. Green Development AS is the CME and is responsible for all aspects of the project. Green Development AS retain the ownership of all the GS VERs that will be generated from the project.
