About this project

Multiple water supply systems, originally designed to serve a combined population of approximately 45,000 people across 12 villages in Ghana’s Eastern and Ashanti regions, have fallen into a state of disrepair due to prolonged lack of maintenance and weak operational management. As a result, the systems are now considered practically inoperable, with significantly reduced functionality. The infrastructure includes boreholes with submersible pumps, elevated water storage tanks, interconnected distribution pipelines and communal tap stations. These systems were initially developed through a private sector initiative and later transferred to the Ghana Red Cross Society. However, the receiving entity faced ongoing challenges related to limited technical capacity and financial constraints, which hindered the systems’ maintenance and long-term performance.
