Confidence labels: calculated, illustrative, assumed
Every number is tagged with how it was produced so you know how far to trust it.
You will see small labels next to Atlas results.
- Computed / CALCULATED: derived directly from stored data by a stated formula (areas, counts, distances, statistics).
- Documented: a fact from the platform's own documentation (units, licences, schedules).
- Illustrative assumption: includes an assumed value, such as carbon per hectare. Treat as a range, not a measurement.
- Not available: Atlas does not hold the data to answer; it says so rather than guessing.
- EVIDENCE / INFERRED: derived from patterns or gaps in the data (in recommendations).
Rule of thumb. If a result contains the word illustrative, do not quote a single number from it.
Limits. Labels describe the method, not the real-world accuracy.
